Extra-curricular Involvement:

Community Involvement: connecting to community at a Fowl Supper, connecting with local Librarian for mini field trip, working with Bowling Alley and Post Office for appropriate visits for students learning opportunities.
Varying Methodologies & Instructional Strategies: inquiry based experiences, group work, individualized assignments, visual and writing aides, one on one teachings, using visual and sound aides, Animated Literacy, LiPS, Math Makes Sense.
Professional Development Opportunities: PLC days, numerous division wide PD opportunities.
Use of Technology: data projector, computer, overhead, various webpages.
Infusion of Aboriginal Content: Every unit that I produced involved at least one lesson involving First Nations content that was directly related to the Grade 1 Saskatchewan Curriculum Guide. My unit in Social Studies involving family was very interesting to involve First Nations. We talked as a class about different family members and their names that are not the same as our family names but they still all love each other just the same. I told the students an oral story which we added pictures to as a class. They really absorbed this information more than I could have ever expected. We talked about some specific clothing, seasons, living conditions (historically), and family values.
Other Teaching Opportunities: I had the opportunity to already teach a lesson from grades Kindergarten to grade 5 and also grade 9 and helping out in the Acct room. All of these opportunities were unique and were not really my comfort zone but it was a good challenge for me.
